The controversial Netflix series 13 Reasons Why has officially announced a second season. Executive producer, Selena Gomez, posted this preview video to her Instagram page @selenagomez.
The internet seemed to react in a mix of ways, many looking forward to the new season and others hoping it was a joke. After the first season, many parents and school administrators raised arms about the topics of sex, suicide, and drugs included in the series. Many calling it "overly explicit," especially after changing the end of the book which inspired the series to include a more graphic death scene.
Author of the book, 13 Reasons Why, and executive producer, Selena Gomez, are especially proud of the Netflix series. Even though the content of season one includes everything from the book, there are still loose ends which questioned a season two after the series release. The New York Times Bestseller was an inspiration to my generation. The first time I read it, it was on my summer reading list in high school just before junior year. It will certainly be interesting to see what author, Jay Asher, has in mind as a sequel to the successful Netflix series. Do you think the second season will do the book justice? |
